My cousin Alan

I've known Alan a very long time, in fact all my life.  I am the youngest and only girl on Alan's mother's side of the family.  I had three older brothers and four boy cousins. Alan was one of my four cousins and probably the one I stayed in closest contact with.  Because we lived in the country, all the Adlington families came to visit at Christmas and in the summer, a huge crowd and good fun for us all.  I stayed at Eynham Road with Ellen and John when I first came to live in London.  I remember Alan and Mary's wedding on a very cold day sixty years ago. Alan was always good fun, academically clever, a very good pianist with a wide variety of interests.  He was so well informed on many subjects, including his dislike of the Tory party!  He read widely particularly during his retirement, and on occasions he took us on walking tours of places of interest in London.  In later years, he and Mary used to meet up for lunch with me and my husband John.  I looked forward to those times.  I will miss our frequent phone chats and sharing our dislike of getting old.

You lived your life well, Alan.  I hope we can all have another Adlington/Burgoine reunion somewhere amongst the stars!
